The Somatic Defilement

The Somatic Defilement
(Siege Of Amida - 2007)

When I hear Whitechapel I think about the district of London which got famous through the killings of Jack the Ripper. Now the British band Whitechapel is out to change this. The Somatic Defilement is their debut.
The band started in 2006 and is sticking out with their 3 guitarist as well as with their straight death metal with grind elements. Brutal death metal with fast and mid-tempo parts... Deep growls and nasty grunts of Phil Bozeman who can stand his ground against the 3 guitarists. At the end of Necrotizing it gets quite symphonic - something I haven't expected at all. The British vary from speedy parts to mid-tempo and slow, lava-ish parts... Monolithic grooves... Partly Phil Bozeman is stepping over borders and adds some brawly words. Nothing for purists!
I think fans of bands like Mortician, Regurgitate and Aborted. Okay, with just over 30 minutes the album is quite short, but this disc steamrolls you and you will be glad to get a break!
