Bury The Light

Bury The Light
(Cruz del Sur - 2012)

The new album from Pharaoh is called Bury The Light, and they like to make songs that have both soft and heavy metal included as if it was a principle for them. The results aren't always successful, but they come out on top most of the time. The guitar work from Matt Johnsen are convincing, but Tim Aymar's vocal performance is not as sharp as they could need to make the album more solid. The first song, Leave Me Here To Dream has this great guitar metal from Johnsen and combined with constructive symphonic content the song leaves a good impression. Castles In The Sky is pure power metal in the progressive end of the scale, also here they can hold their heads up to take the acclaims. The absolutely best song on the album is Burn With Me, because here they make a tight and sharp sound that gets heavier by the second, and compete with the more complex songs on the metal market. Burn With Me can speak on the albums behalf, if you like this song, then check out more metal from Pharaoh.

Ten Years

Ten Years
(Cruz del Sur - 2011)

A gift to the fans for their ten years of activity, this is what Pharaoh has done with this new 6 tracks EP. Six tracks taken from their recent past: two songs from their last CD recording sessions, two tracks from theirs 7" and two cover songs. In fact you can hear many differences between each songs, they're taken from different time periods, but honestly I don't care because this is not a 'stellar money operation', but a real homage to their loyal fans, so horns up for Tim Aymar and his partners in crime!!!

Let's analyze this new Ten Years that starts with the title track, a good track where power is the master and the center!!! When We Fly is another nice track where speed, power and melodies give us another little Masterpiece. White Light is a cover version of New Model Army's classic tune. Reflection And The Inevitable Future and Nothing I Can Say are two good examples of the US approach to heavy metal, very good songs, powerful mid-tempos and great vocal lines! This mini CD is closed by a cover version of Slayer's Tormentor.

In my opinion this is a good homage to Pharaoh's fans worldwide, now we wait the new full length CD.
