Riot Squad

Riot Squad
(AFM Records - 2009)

Charly Steinhauer and his mates are surely tired of being compared with Metallica. In the 80's they had 2 good albums (Product Of Society 1987, Heresy 1989) and been called Metallica clones and like so many other speed and thrash metal bands - no matter if clones or not -, they had to capitulate when the almighty grundge arrived in the early 90's.
Some will still compare Riot Squad - their 5th album - with Metallica, but the Würzburg guys always stick to their guns and didn't try to new musical paths like Metallica did who left legions of fans longing for another Master Of Puppets or ...And Justice For All. So Paradox are among the ones who always played this style and still do these days. Testament and Forbidden are among the bands you'll think of when you are listening to Riot Squad.
Paradox in the year 2009 are Charly Steinhauer (guit, voc), Kai Pasemann (guit), Olly Keller (bass) and Roland Jahoda (dr) and they play speed / thrash metal in the vein of the mid- / late 80's - and they sound fresh! Unfortunately you don't hear this kind of stuff that often now... The fast thrasher Suburban Riot Squad is the opener, other fast ones are Rise In Rank and Evolution Reset. When they reduce speed they have a heavy groove spiced up with some melodies - like at Hollow Peace, Nothingness and Planet Terror. And with the hyper-fast Psychofficial they close this chapter.
After countless spins this album they won't bore you! Great songs played on a technically high level with a powerful, modern production, that's what you get. Everybody who likes the mentioned bands - like I do -, should give it a try and listen to the new Paradox album. These guys deserve it!

Sonic thrash assault are the first words that jump in my head after the listening of this CD!!!!! No way, this is a totally thrash album, well produced and of course well played by Paradox. In this CD nothing is wrong, nothing is made to appear nice, everything is played and built with blind fury and rage!!! Finally a reformed band that is better than the '80s!!!
This CD starts with Suburban Riot Squad that shake our interiors!!! Other tracks like Psychofficial or Riptide will blow your minds and in a blink of an eye you'll start to mosh!!!
I want to thank AFM Records for giving us this release and Paradox for demonstrate that is possible to do a very nice thrash album, even if your band is not named Testament, Machine Head or Metallica!!! Great job guys!!!!

Collision Course

Collision Course
(AFM Records - 2000)

The German quartet started back in 1986! Only original member Charly Steinhauer is now joined by Oliver Holzwarth (bs; played with Demons & Wizards, ex-Sieges Even), Alex Holzwart (dr, ex-Sieges Even) and Kai Pasemann on guitar. In the past Paradox released 2 albums in the 80's and due to business and family problems broke up. Now they are back!
Musically the quartet offers power metal with speed / thrash elements, but also present some more mid-tempo stuff.... Check out Collision Course, Sadness and Path Of Denial. Interesting is also the bonus track, a cover verison of the Scorpions' hit Dynamite!
