Burning Leather

Burning Leather
(AFM Records - 2011)

Another return, another (not so big) surprise, another piece of my youth is back, Oz from Finland are here.... they're back!! This return was announced by the video clip of the new song Dominator and their show at Swordbrothers festival in Germany. Ape De Martini and his partners in crime are back with this new Burning Leather CD, a new label (AFM Records), a new producer the mighty Nicke Andersson (Nicke Royale in his Hellacopters days). With this new and big credentials Oz are ready for their assault on new generations of metal guys because their latest CD was out in 1991 and it's called Roll The Dice.

Let's try to analyze this new release.... We can see that all the songs are not exactly new, there are a couple of re-recorded songs Fire In The Brain and the classic tune Turn The Cross Upside Down. In my opinion this new recording give more power and refresh a lot the sound of this band, so in this case this is a job well done!!! But now we have 9 tracks to listen to, and the first impression is the big job of Nicke Andresson behind the console, it was not easy to put some rock'n'roll energy in these songs, and the result is a big cool sounded mix of power and strength!!! I really like a lot this sound!!! We have in total 11 songs that will kick your ass out!! Oz are back with a powerful that never in their career they had, song like Dominator, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Total Metal will drive you totally mad. Another good album in my stereo in this period... and I'm proud to write positive things about this band!!

If you metal heads will ignore this return, you are a bunch of criminals..... Oz rules!!!!

How about not releasing a new record in 20 years. That is the case with Oz, the good old Finnish band that are afraid of not being remembered. They are still interested in metal music, and makes their comeback album now, called Burning Leather. From time to time you can hear that their music has the roots in 80's metal, but no shame in that. Search Light is a typical example of 80's metal where they swim like a fish in the water, old school metal with a sublime sound. Let Sleeping Dogs Lie is a humanitarian song to stay out of dogs business, how sweet of them to think of animals well being, but if the dogs hear the direct forwarded metal they might wake up anyway. Fire In The Brain, and also Turn The Cross Upside Down is two of their old hits that they want to relive again, good and aggressive with some inspiration from Grave Digger. The new stuff is very good. Burning Leather is a super heavy brilliant song where the metal really are burning. Another very good one is Enter Stadium, that show Kiss has not been around for nothing, good Kiss atmosphere on this one. Bravo, what a comeback.
