The Grandiose Nowhere

The Grandiose Nowhere
(Napalm Records - 2010)

Two years after the release of Songs For The Last View the rock'n sad rockers Lacrimas Profundere are back with The Grandiose Nowhere. On this disk they present 12 tracks which combine catchy melodies and dynamic gothic sounds - like they did on their previous albums.
With Be Mine In Tears they present an emotional track which leads you into the album and which fits well into the concept of the album with its dark melodies and rock riffs. Singer Rob Vitacca sounds great and more mature. The following track The Letter will convince you with its fast refrain and for The Lips they speed up a bit more. And with I Don't Care they demonstrate perfectly why they are the rock'n sad rockers, coz this balladesque tune is touching. Don't look for innovative sounds, coz there aren't any, but all songs are very solid gothic rock tune and the production make them shine. John Fryer (e.g. H.I.M, Depeche Mode, Paradise Lost) is responsible for the crystal clear production. The cover artwork is done by Niklas Sundin who is known for his work for e.g. Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. Personally I like that Rob is changing from song to song, adjusting to the songs. He isn't just doing Gothic vocals, he also adds some rock vocals and then his voice has a different timbre. So you get a guitar-driven album without fillers! Lacrimas Profundere might be labelled as gothic, but they have more to offer and so I recommend this album to everybody who is listening to Paradise Lost or The 69 Eyes and who loves catchy Gothic rock!

The Grandiose Nowhere

The Grandiose Nowhere
(Napalm Records - 2010)

The Bavarian Goth rockers Lacrimas Profundere have a new album out, The Grandiose Nowhere. It's album no. 9 for them since their 1995 debut ...And The Wings Embraced Us was released. The guys kick off with Be Mine In Tears and show that they stay on the chosen path. Genre fans will know what to expect, the ones who don't know them.... well, imagine a heavy version of HIM with a bit The 69 Eyes... A catchy one is The Letter, a danceable tune which should soon be played at Gothic metal discotheques. Synthesizer sounds lead you into Lips, a dark up-tempo rocker. Singer Rob Vitacca's vocals vary and here his dark timbre reminds me a bit of Pete Steele... After some danceable tunes you get a sad emotional song with I Don't Care, here the similarities to HIM are most obvious. The closer No Matter Where You Shoot Me Down somehow sticks out and is catching the listeners attention once again. Actually for me the highlight of the album and so I hope that in future they risk a little more.
Lacrimas Profundere deliver another well-crafted album which should please their followers and genre fans. I miss a real ear catcher, a song which haunts you for days.... Don't get me wrong, they don't do anything wrong, it's just a bit too predictable.
