Canvas Solaris is a very skilled trio who present their 3rd album - as far as I know. The instrumental album Cortical Tectonics can be categorized as TecMetal or MathProg... They have jazzy parts, too. I confess I'm not a huge fan of instrumental albums and this one won't change my mind! A lot of technical progressive metal.
During the opening Berserker Hypothesis I stand the urge to switch it off! Too much for me! With Sinusoid Mirage is a more laid back tune - in the beginning. It has some 70's feeling and even if very technically it's more enjoyable for me then the previous one - in the beginning. Later in the song they start with complex patterns and frenzy parts.
Well, there are short parts which I really like... I want some melody in my music which I rarely find here. Actually with Canvas Solaris' sound I have as much problems as with free jazz - and I can't stand it for more then a few minutes. I know that people who like Spiral Architect, Watchtower and Gordian Knot will dig it. Sorry, not my cup of tea!
