The Burning

The Burning
(Nuclear Blast - 2004)

Last year the Finnish were voted as 'Newcomer of the Year' by many magazines, even if it initially was planned as a solo-project of Antidote guitarist Nino Laurenne. Now they are back with their second album - The Burning. Their debut got fantastic critics and so the pressure on the five Finnish guys was pretty high. And they were able to top this! A little progressive they are at Until We Touch The Burning Sun which is catchy and has great hooks. A beautiful ballad they recorded with Sea Of Sorrow, this could be a hit... But there are powerful heavy rockers and up-tempo tracks like Mirror Never Lies, Drawn To The Flame and Forth Into The Black. On Break The Emotions the guitar riffing is killer. A metal anthem. The keyboard play has reminiscences to Stratovarius, but the other instruments don't follow the path of Timo Tolkki's band. Another plus is that the singer has a voice that differ from Timo Kotipelto and is closer to the voices of Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson.
If the Finnish will be able to deliver one more album on this quality level, then it won't take long until they enter the premier league of power metal!
