Sandman

Sandman
(self-released - 2010)

The Korea comes from St. Petersburg, Russia, and was founded in 2003. Before they founded The Korea the members were active in other musical projects. Through the years they recorded some demos and as so many bands had to face some line-up changes. Anyway, in early 2010 they went into the studio to record this single which can be downloaded from their MySpace for free.
They kick off with a song which is called Zodiac, a heavy, guitar-driven tune with the deep growls of Evgenie Pj Potekhin. But there are also more melodic passages with clean vocals. The Russian metalcore band is offering complex, heavy music full of aggression. At the second tune which is called Sphere they partly remind me of Paradise Lost (One Second era), but combine these elements with modern sounds and so create an interesting tune. The closer is the title track Sandman, slowly they lead you into the track, after the atmospheric intro the guitars take over. It takes more then a minute til they storm off into another complex track. But guitars and clean vocal parts make it memorable. Not overly catchy, but that's partly due to the Russian vocals - I guess.
Anyway, The Korea offer an interesting sound, check them out at their MySpace or Facebook page!
