Head Up High

Head Up High
(Dark Essence Records - 2010)

Former members of Old Funeral, Grimfist, Borknagar and Taake came together in 2006 to make music, to play old school thrash / death metal. The first result of this cooperation was the 2007 demo The Spirit Of Masculinity. Their full-length debut Stronghold Of Men was released in 2008 and now it's time for Head Up High!
'One, two, three, four'.... this is how they kick off the punky thrasher Mind My Step. The title track isn't as punky as the opener, more fast dirty rock with a dash of thrash and death. Guitarist Stud Bronson is also responsible for the harsh shouts. And together with guitarist Lust Kilman he adds some leads which are influenced by traditional heavy metal. An up-tempo groove rocker is When Death Becomes Dangerous, fat riffs and speed changes they offer hear. The guitar line at Within The Frame Of The Graveyard is what makes this tune interesting and shows that they can do more then just firing thrashy riffs or play fast. At Thick Skinned And Weatherbitten they also reduce the speed a bit and they vary in style - a good idea, coz otherwise the album would be too one-dimensional. Partly due to the vocals, but once again it's a matter of taste.
The foursome offer 37+ minutes of old school metal with harsh vocals and cool guitar play. Let them take you back in time!
