Propeller

Propeller
(ulfTone Music - 2002)

If you are just listen to metal, stop reading here! If you listen to all kinds of music, go on! In Europe most won't know Peter Stuart, even if this is his third album and even if he toured a lot. On Propeller Stuart offers a melange of college rock and pop. After releasing 2 albums through Sony Records under the band name Dog's Eye View and touring with bands like Counting Crows & Jeff Buckely (at that time without a contract or an album out), Tori Amos, Cracker, Del Amitri and David Gray he recorded this album.
But differences with Columbia/Sony made him leave the major label. His manager fought hard and got back the masters. Now Propeller is released first in Europe and perhaps the coming tour in the US as opener of Matchbox 20 gets him a deal. This is his first solo album and offers beautiful pop rock tunes. Simple songs which partly remind me of R.E.M., perhaps it's Peter Stuarts voice which has some similarities to Michael Stipes. Let's Get Lost is a good choice, if you want to know what to expect from Stuart, even if Mark Isham's trumpet which is heard in the background isn't part of all songs. On others he worked with strings or piano. But all songs enchant the listener with their simplicity and atmosphere.
Other to check out: Songs About You, Propeller Girl and Vertigo.
