Unseen

Unseen
(Nuclear Blast - 2002)

When the album Unseen gets in the stores it might surprise some fans... The band sound different, even if they didn't leave their roots behind. But singer Rick Mythiasin left the band after the recordings for personal and musical reasons, so perhaps this influenced the recordings....
Opening with the track Truth the American power metal quintet starts in a way the fan might expect. A typical track for Steel Prophet it seems, but then some experimental keyboard parts show that this isn't the Steel Prophet we all know. With One Way Out they recorded a really heavy tune which is outstanding. An unusual vocal line makes this one outstanding, perhaps this will be start some controversy between the fans....
With Among The Damned they recorded a semi-ballad which shows the more mellow side of the band. A decent song, but not a masterpiece.
On Bolero guitarist and mastermind Steve Kachinsky shows his talent in an instrumental piece of music, but it has nothing to do with the classic music piece of Ravel.
At all I have to say that I really like the album, but it's not as strong as the last releases. Perhaps it shouldn't be compared with them... It's less aggressive. Listen to it and make up your mind. Perhaps you'll like it, perhaps you won't... Anyway, we have to wait and see who will be their new singer and what future holds for them.
