The Madrileños Steel Horse were founded in summer 2007 by guitarist Willy Gascón and singer Jorge Cortes. As so many musicians they started in a cover band and then been involved in several bands and projects, but now they joined forces in Steel Horse. In February 2008 they recorded this demo EP and are now shopping for a deal.
The four-some kicks off with Sons Of Fire, a heavy, melodic tune. First mid-paced, but then they speed up and some Judas Priest influences are audible. Singer Jorge Cortes has a deep raspy voice, but also adds some screams, even if not at the opener. The opener is heavy metal tune with reminiscences to the past, but without sounding back-dated. The guitar solo is short and supporting the song, not showing ego. The refrain is not overall catchy, but after a few spins it lasts! With Raise Your Fist they continue. The track is riff-based, but also varies in speed, passing from heavy metal to speed metal, but always make sure that it's melodic - with a heavy punch! A metal anthem. The guys manage to use their influences and transform them into classic heavy metal with a modern touch. Slowly starts Winds Of Time, but then becomes a classic powerful tune. Here they remind me slightly of U.D.O., but there is something else... The vocal line reminds me partly of some old Sinner track... And still there is something missing to explain the blend. With Wild Power they deliver the 4th and last track, and it's in the vein of the other tunes.
The band is interesting for fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, U.D.O. and even power metal fans might find the Spanish interesting. They aren't copycats and do quite good, the only advice I can give is to Jorge to work on his pronunciation - even if I heard worse! I think it won't take too long until we hear more from the four Madrileños!
