Stahlmann

Stahlmann
(AFM Records - 2010)

With Stahlmann a new band tries to break into the market. The name means something like 'man of steel' and when you listen to the opening track of their self-released album you are welcomed by NDH meets gothic meets EBM. The first impression is that the five guys from Göttingen are inspired by Rammstein and Oomph... The track Stahlmann offers more danceable beats and has more electro elements, but still they sound like a mix of Rammstein and Oomph. At Stahlmann the lyrics show that they are aware of the fact that their sound is close to these 2 bands. To get an impression of Stahlmann check out their video Hass Mich... Lieb Mich.
Teufel is a bit more gothic due to the keyboards and somehow this works better - at least for me. After another rocker Auf Ewig kicks off more slowly and with the spoken words part it reminds me a bit of Unheilig... Balladesque and with a dash of melancholy they head into Mein Flehen, but later the song seems to explode. At Stahlwittchen the Rammstein sound is back. The other songs don't differ much, so I won't go into detail.
Sorry, but for me they sound too much like Rammstein, Eisbrecher and Oomph. For me the band lacks originality... Need to find their own sound. But this is a debut, so perhaps next time they will have a more unique sound...
