The Rule Of Right

The Rule Of Right
(Lion Music - 2010)

Kelly Simonz is a Japanese guitarist who is presenting neo-classical metal. The album was released in Japan years ago and now is (re-)released by Lion Music in Europe. The opener Destiny is reminding me of Royal Hunt / Artension, just more guitar-based. And that's not really a surprise. Guitarist Kelly Simonz is handling all instruments and the vocals. Fans of Yngwie Malmsteen will dig the guitar play of Simonz, but personally he's overdoing it. Okay, the songs aren't bad and his play is song-supportive most of the time, but still... A real band feeling is missing and that's my main criticisms... In a studio you can create a lot with the available technic, but not everything is possible and so the album sounds a bit sterile.. In his home country Japan he's a guitar hero and I can understand this, coz technically he's amazing. I wish he would have worked with a band and so bring the songs to life... The drums sound muffled... Kelly Simonz isn't a great singer, but his vocals aren't the main problem I do have with this album.... Fans of Yngwie Malmsteen should check it out!
