The Finnish band started back in 1995 and had to go through some line-up changes. Frostnight is the first release of the band with new singer Riina Rinkinen who has a deep, sonorous voice. She has the power to stand up against the band and adds some seducing melody lines. A bit melancholy is the track, but with powerful riffing - remind me partly of The Gathering in the days of Mandylion and also a bit of Lacuna Coil due to her phrasing and the groove. The addition of cellist Elias Kahila makes the music even more interesting.
They dare to cover Uninvited, a song from Alanis Morissette - and it sounds good! Sure it's a gothic metal version of the song, but that makes it even more interesting. And it shows Riina Rinkinen's talent.
So, let's wait and see what they offer with the next full-length album, so far the single indicates that it's worth waiting for more Silentum music!
