Imaginary Sonicscape
(Century Media - 2001)

It seems that we have to face a wave of Japanese bands, even if they play different kinds of heavy metal. This trio is from Japan as well and they offer thrash metal. The first notes of the album opener Corpsecry - Angelfall remind me of Black Sabbath with their heaviness, but there are many other influences... They are no newcomers, the band was founded in the late 80's and released their debut in 1993. After 4 full-length albums and a MCD they are now signed to Century Media and more people will have the chance to listen to their weird mixture... Singer Mirai describes this album as an album of the 21st century recorded with equipment of the 70's (Moog, Hammond, Rhodes...), the spirit of the 80's and the digital technic of the 90's. Their weird mix includes black metal, thrash and a bit of free jazz (the spirit of Coltrane as they describe it) and more.... This is a trip! These crazy Japanese do their own thing, no music for the masses! Check them out, if your are open-minded and into extreme metal. They have a certain magic, but if this will enchant the metal world.... For me this is partly too weird..... Not my cup of tea, but well done.... My rating is probably not fair to them.....

Well, what the Japanese extreme metal band Sigh present can't hardly be described. Let me think... I think I know how to explain now! No, that won't work. Let's try this... The music of Sigh's 5th album Imaginary Sonicscape is based in shrill, sick growls while the guitars sound more melodic and avant-garde and the rhythm section... The influences have all, from psychedelic sounds to oriental ones. A real demanding album. I played the album Imaginary Sonicscape for some friends, but none could stand more then 4 songs. Confusing and playful.
