Brainwreck
(Candlelight Records - 2009)

Boston-based Ramming Speed are presenting their latest piece of work Brainwreck. A bit short of 30 minutes the Bostonians offer 13 tracks which are based in 80's thrash metal, but also have a dash of death... Speed Trials open and for The Threat... they speed up even more! Fast riffs, a classical thrash solo and spitting vocals. At Lazer Assault the opening shows some Motörhead influences, other influences which are audible at Brainwreck are Exodus, Slayer and even oldsters like Black Flag. At Shane Emburs Id The Brad Pitt Of Grindcore they cross the boarder to death metal! Pete Gallagher shows that he can growl! After 2+ minutes it's over and they head into the very fast Bogus Facade. Thrash is the basis for all their excursions into other territories, wherever it will lead them.... Sometimes it's more towards tradition heavy metal (Heavy Metal Thunder), sometimes they are more heading towards death metal. Due to the variety of sound elements they keep it interesting, coz you never know what's next. But for purists this is no treat!
For vinyl collectors there is a limited edition of 500 copies released by Brutal Panda Records. Beside that you might be able to grab one copy of the digipack which is limited to 1,000 copies. The album is 80's thrash with some crossover influences, so if you still love the 80's thrash, you should check them at out their MySpace!

Ramming Speed are from Boston, this is their first full-length album and their music is based in 80's thrash metal. That's it in a nutshell... Okay, let me tell you a bit more. Songs like Speed Trials are fun and the more traditional Heavy Metal Thunder is really cool, but what they heck made them record Shane Embury Is The Brad Pitt Of Grindcore? The track is less then a minute, but still don't fit in - at least for me. The guys are mixing their 80's thrash with crossover elements and even death. But if I want that kind of stuff then I pick a different CD! For me this isn't working and I hope the guys make up their minds and decided which way to go before they record another album! Not bad, but it seems they don't know what they really want to do. Sorry.
