From The Ashes

From The Ashes
(Tiefdruck Musik - 2010)

Drummer Adrian Erlandsson (Paradise Lost, At The Gates, ex-The Haunted, ex-Cradle Of Filth) has found a new field of activity and is now playing in a band called Nemhain. This outfit already released an EP (Blood Runs Free) and is now delivering their debut full-length album From The Ashes. Musically the drummer is pursuing new territories, coz Nemhain has nothing in common with thrash, black or dark metal. They offer dirty rock'n'roll with punk attitude - and a female singer and bassist. The title track and Ana are short, but solid up-tempo rocker which show their influences. A mix of Motörhead, Ramones and The Misfits come over you and the dirty riffs will bring you down. Singer Amber Erlandsson combines aggression and melody in her expressive vocals. Sometimes she sounds like drama queen and hits some high notes, but still she differs from her fellow colleagues. For Clear My Eyes they slow down a bit and the doomy parts remind me a bit of Danzig... Then they pick up speed again and similarities to Black Label Society are there. Second Skin is another snotty punk rocker with a lot of power (The Gits cover song), Girls Like Honey and Dirty Weekend are groove-based and more melodic. Speed changes do the trick. They stay on the chosen path and with catchy refrains and a powerful production they can convince you. Cool hooks, memorable bridges and great refrains are their trademarks. So, if you are looking for some cool punk'n'roll band, then check out this London-based band. This is no polished album! This album is a bit dark and dirty, a great mix of rock and punk spiced up with a dash of metal. Best to be consumed live. An energetic mix with a street attitude coming straight from the gutter!
