Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls

Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls
(Roadrunner Records - 2003)

Opening with a piece of Beethoven's symphony no. 9... I think that what it is, but I'm not an expert on classic music. Then a scratch of vinyl... Then the Murderdolls start their thrashy punk rock attack. Never heard of the Murderdolls? Well, but you'll know the founder of this band... Joey Jordison - the drummer of Slipknot - is hear playing guitar. Actually this band was founded back in 1995 under the name of The Rejects, later became the Murderdolls. On the mic is Wednesday 13 - ex-Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 - who started as a bass player for Murderdolls. Wednesday 13 came into the band through their former guitarst Trip Eisen (ex-Dope, ex-Static X) toured with Slipknot and so the story began. Just when they headed into the studio Wednesday took over the microphone. The band got completed by Eric Griffin on bass and Ben Graves on drums.
Don't expect some kind of Slipknot or Static X! This is more a hommage to the punk rock giants The Misfits, The Ramones and partly to the Plasmatics combined with some horror B-movie inspired lyrics. The quintet sound fresh and powerful. More a kind of party album... Perfect for the next heavy metal party... Pounding drums, hammering bass and heavy guitar riffing topped with the sick vocals of Wednesday 13. From the 15 tracks of the album are 7 re-recordings of Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 songs. But that's okay, coz it fits to the other tracks. Love At First Fight is a hommage to The Ramones in their more glam punk time. A song soon people will join in at a party. Others are more Misfits-like. So, don't take this too serious, it's fun. Even if some people might be shocked by the lyrics... They exaggerate is, but I have no doubt that some take it serious...
Whenever there will be a new album, it'll show if they'll continue their punk rock crusade... Meanwhile enjoy this one, coz Slipknot are doing very well, so I doubt that Jordison soon will have time to meet the Murderdolls again.
