No More Obscurity

No More Obscurity
(Lion Music - 2000)

Rolf Munkes - a German guitarist - didn't started as a professional musician, he first had a "real" day job. In 1992 he was one of the founders of Abra, then he decided to study music. He finished the studies with the best results.
Mr. Munkes had different guitar teachers and taught others to make living. In 1998 he build up his own studio so that he has the possibility to create his own sound. His demo he presented at the world-famous music convention in Frankfurt, Germany. The live presentation convinced the visitors of the convention as well as the musicians and the media.
Now his first full-length CD No More Obscurity is out and contains 45 minutes of guitar-driven music. The 14 songs - partly instrumentals - are produced by Mr. Munkes himself with a little help of Gerald Kloos who also played the drums. Rolf Munkes played all guitars, most of the bass parts and keyboards while Götz Mohr took over most of the vocal parts. Beside the basic band Munkes asked some known musicians to join. Lance King - singer of Balance Of Power - sang The Police cover Message In A Bottle and Anders Johansson played some drum parts. He is known for his work with Hammerfall and Yngwie Malmsteen.
Rolf Munkes offers guitar-oriented rock music which isn't just interesting for other guitarists. The mixture of instrumentals, songs with vocals and the cover version of a hit makes this an interesting collection.
