Theory Of Everything

Theory Of Everything
(Lion Music - 2010)

Italian guitarist Alex Masi is known by many for about 2 decades. He always try to cross boundaries, to explore new sonic shores. At Theory Of Everything he handles all and everything on his own - and presents a collection of songs which show a large variety. So does the opener Theory Of Nothing combine Prodigy sounds with heavy riffs and shred passages. At other songs he adds some fusion elements or even loops. The atmospheric The Past seems to be inspired by Jeff Beck, at least it has a Beck-ish touch... The opening of Breakfast At Owsley's reminds me - due to the spoken words at the beginning - of Murray Head's One Night In Bangkok, but as soon as Masi let the guitar take over the tune gets a different atmosphere. Big Bad Science has an industrial touch, but also shows the typical guitar play of Masi. Actually the songs are all based on the typical Alex Masi style spiced up with different elements. It's probably not the typical shred album, but still targets the fans of instrumental guitar rock / metal.
