The Polish outfit Made Of Hate present their second album, Pathogen. The foursome kick off with Friend, a tune which first seems to be more melodic then they sounded on their debut, but when the growls join in the song gets quite heavy. The melodic guitar play of Mike Kostrzyński is essential for their sound. Since former rhythm guitarist Radek Pólrolniczak took over the microphone the vocals are a bit too one-dimensional. The songs are based in power metal, but offer modern elements - and with a different singer they would attract a wider range of metal fans. At You, Departed the refrain is catchy, here Mike Kostrzyński is adding backing vocals and shows again that Mike's voice was more flexible - even if he's a much better guitarist then singer. Songs like I Can't Believe show similarities to Children Of Bodom, but they can't keep up with them. I know that the band is confident it was the right move to let Radek Pólrolniczak switch from rhythm guitar to vocals, but I have my doubts. If their intention was to get heavier, to head more into melodic death metal, then their guitar play is too melodic. And for a power metal band the vocals are too limited. Actually I'm a bit disappointed, especially as I can imagine how the songs would have sounded with a different singer. For me getting Radek as lead vocalist was a move into the wrong direction. Songs like Pathogen or Russian Roulette could have been metal anthems, but the melodies won't stick. And the Mike's guitar can make up for it. Beside that the songs are all mid-paced and some faster ones would be a nice change. I miss a song like Bullet In My Head which has mid-tempo parts and fast passages. |

From Warsaw the yound band Made Of Hate starts to conquer the metal world with Bullet In Your Head, their debut album. The Polish quartet is based in power metal spiced up with some death metal elements and CoB-like vocals. Its impressing how singer and lead guitarist Michal Kostrzynski handles the double burden. Okay, some might argue that the vocals are limited and that they band should look for a more powerful singer, but as Alexi Laiho and his hate crew have many fans, why should this be a problem for Made Of Hate? Songs like the title track or On The Edge are straight forward, guitar-driven and show a certain variety - and even has some catchiness. You might ask yourself what makes them differ from the Finnish? Well, they don't use keyboards and the guitars vary a bit more in style... And like at On The Edge bassist Jarek Kajszczak has time to step up front and dominate the sound for a moment. On Judgement the guitar is influenced by some neo-classical metal... And on Deadend they slow down partly and get a bit doomy. They vary a bit, but all songs are straight forward and invite you to bang your head. |

Made Of Hate is a band from Poland which plays melodic death metal. Bullet In Your Head is their debut. The first song Bullet In Your Head starts with a simple melody and it remind directly to songs of Children Of Bodom. But.... There are no keyboards in the music of Made Of Hate. But the whole music is very close to the Bodom sound. The guitar solos and the voice of Mike - who could be a clone of the young Alexi Laiho - remind me of Alexi. But the riffs are great! Next song An Eye For An Eye starts with a nice guitar riff in front of the music. Straight double bass drumming and trashy riffs headline the song. On The Edge starts with a classical guitar riff. My Last Breath is a bit slower than the rest and got more groovy parts. Mirror Of Sins is a very fast one and does start with a very fast and weird guitar solo before it goes over to a straight verse riff with trioles and really melodic guitar riffs - one of my favourites. Hidden is a very cool one, too. This song got more palm muted and whole notes. Judgement is again a fast song which ends with a cool melodic solo. Deadend starts with thirds before they turnover to normal chords. Last song Fallout starts with some electricity sounds and fast rhythm guitars before the whole band sets in. The verse contains some thirds played by two guitars and in the chorus there is this nice melody. |
