A Moment In Chiros

A Moment In Chiros
(Nightmare Records - 2011)

Many music lovers know Lance King as the former singer of Avian, Pyramaze and Balance Of Power, now he's presenting his first solo album. And if you listen to the album you won't belief that he just thought about it late June and as it's about the 11:11 concept he wanted to release it November 11th 2011. So work had to be done quickly to have it ready for this day. He invited some friends and headed into the making of A Moment In Chiros. As A Moment In Chiros is a solo album and so Mr. King hooked up with several musicians. These guys did join in: Jacob Hansen (Beyond Twilight, Invocator & Anubis Gate), Kim Olesen (Anubis Gate), Michael Harris (Darkology, Thought Chamber), Tore St Moren (Jørn), Fred Colombo (Spheric Universe Experience), Markus Sigfridsson (Darkwater / Harmony), Kevin Codfert (Adagio), Michael Hansen & Shane Dhiman (Phonomik), Morten Gade Sørensen (Pyramaze, Wuthering Heights), Elyes Bouchoucha, Malek Ben Arbia, Anis Jouini (Myrath) & Mistheria (Bruce Dickinson among others).

The opening tack A Sense Of Urgency is kicking of with spoken words and becomes a progressive metal tune with twists and turns. Heavy riffing accompanies the warm voice of Mr. King. The following Awakening also has a progressive edge, but is catchy too. If you work with so talented musicians some will expect a technical frenzy, but Mr. King focuses on atmospheres and it's all about the song. So his vocals vary and give him the chance to show his range. Quite heavy is A Given Chance, a riff-based track which clearly fits the category power metal, even with the electronic elements. The title track uses spoken words to lead you into the epic A Moment In Chiros. An epic, mostly mid-paced tune which has different facets, and with 7+ minutes running time there is space to vary a lot. After another progressive power metal tune it's time for something different! Kibou is featuring Lance vocals accompanied by keyboard. An enchanting ballad. For Infinity Divine they pick up pace, riff-based and with a heavy groove this one is taking you back into power prog metal universe. Slowly thy kick off with Sacred Systems, but then Lance King and his mates head into a progressive power metal tune. This track is flavored with Oriental elements, offers twists and turns - again. Personally I like the 'new' flavor, and surely one of my favorites off A Moment In Chiros! The closer is called Transformation, slow at the opening passage they storm off into a powerful heavy, modern metal tune with progressive elements.

If you're still not fully convinced, then do it for the cause! To quote the biography: "Lance has chosen 'Human Trafficking' (sex slavery), one of the fastest growing criminal activities worldwide as the charitable cause he would like to champion, profits from this album will go to efforts to abolish this slave trade worldwide through an organization called 'NOT FOR SALE'!
