Rendered Waters

Rendered Waters
(SPV - 2011)

When Lenny Wolf and Kingdom Come stepped into the limelight in the late 80's they were categorized as Led Zeppelin clones. The first albums were their most successful ones and they toured the world. Lenny Wolf recorded albums with different line-ups for more then 20 years now. Not just the world has changed in the last 2 decades, also Mr. Wolf. And so he thought it's time to revive some of the classic Kingdom Come tunes and present them they way the band is playing them in 2011.
The songs from the past sound heavier, more metal. The guitars sound fat and have a warm sound. In a way transferring the 70's rock into modern days. Songs like The Wind sound fresh and not a bit backdated. And with Blue Trees they offer a new track which doesn't stick out - in a positive way -, it could have been an old but overdone track. Should I wasn't one of their singles, but almost every hard rock fan will know this tune. Now it sounds much heavier, but still carries the vibe of the original recording. A notably difference you'll hear at I'll Be Trying where Lenny Wolf changed the verse.
The new version of Seventeen is ultra heavy! Some young bands who want to sound heavy don't get even close to this! The current line-up is working like a well-oiled machine and while some bands try to sound modern and fail, it sounds like a natural process in case of Kingdom Come. From the new songs Don't Remember is the best in my opinion, while the others just blend in perfectly, this one has it's own identity.
The closer Break Down The Wall is the perfect ending of Rendered Waters, coz it will make you spin the album again. And is another demonstration by Mr. Wolf that he wrote some timeless songs which can shine in different ways / sounds. While there are still similarities to Led Zeppelin the heavier versions kinda minimize them. Rendered Waters is meant to shorten the time til the next studio album - and to show that they are still alive. If the next album sounds like this, Kingdom Come will make new friends and hopefully the fans from the early days give it a try too.

Independent
(ulfTone music - 2002)

Almost every hard rock / metal fan heard about the German band Kingdom Come in the past, now main man Lenny Wolf is back. Things changed and so did the music. In the past Lenny Wolf worked with a band, this album is done all by his own, just the drums been played by someone else. After being disappointed by band members Mr. Wolf decided to be Independent. The songs are mainly the same style as ever, but he added partly modern sounds, electronically sounds which we know from Nu metal bands. The opening track I Can Feel It shows that very good. Obviously this is his way to cope with the disappointments and so Didn't Understand has a melancholy touch. But with Forever Wolf recorded an acoustic ballad, the more sensitive side of him. But ballads have been there through all the years and became a trademark for the German and so this song fits into the musical history very well.
This seems to be the most personal album of Lenny Wolf and it shows where he see himself in the business these days. I'm not sure, if all the fans from the early days of the band will be happy with this album, but at least nobody can say that's the same old songs, same old sounds... He's independent.... These days....
