Home Of The Homeless

Home Of The Homeless
(Village Kids Records - 2010)

In 2008 the Paderborn-based band Jerk Off Kid released an EP titled Everybody Gets Jerked, afterwards they played a lot live and even supported punk veterans Murphys Law. Their latest piece of work is called Home Of The Homeless and the quartet is also doing charity, coz 1 Euro of each sold copy is donated to a Paderborn social project called Tafel. Kudos! Especially for a newcomer band this is unusual and a great thing. Jerk Off Kid play melodic punk rock which focus on simple 3-chord structures and catchy melodies. Memorable vocal lines are combined with simple, but effective instrumentation - some songs even have the potential to become a hit. Sometimes they spice it up with some groove parts and so it never gets boring. Sounds like the perfect album for friends of melodic punk rock, right? Well, unfortunately it isn't. The songs lack the power, aren't raw enough... Perhaps they wanted this polished sound, perhaps they wanted to be mainstream... Only the band has the answer, but as a punk fan you will miss the raw sound, the rough edges. An album easy to listen to and even with a punk rock hit, but nothing spectacular.
