On March 13th 2010 it was time for a special sonic journey as the Wuppertal show was one of the last ones of In Extremo's Tranquilo tour. Happy who could take part of the trip back to the early days of the 20th century with the seven goliards.
The place was well chosen, the former movie theater Rex-Kino offered the right atmosphere for them. Okay, the stage was a bit small, but that didn't effect the atmosphere and the vibe at this sold out show!
The opened up with Merseburger Zaubersprüche which was followed by Frei zu sein, Mein Sehnen and Lebensbeichte. No photo pit, no security and with the intimicy of the venue which demanded 'strip off'. Micha Rhein commented that he's glad that tonight it's women demanding it, the night before it were men. And if you had any doubts, the guys didn't strip off. Just after the short break for smoking Herr Rhein returned with out his cap and his shoes, but that's it.
And it was Micha Rhein who showed that he cares for flowers by watering the daffodils - and the audience applauded. "e;For what you get applause these days..."e; was his reply.
After the break In Extremo were back with Vollmond, Die Gier and En esta noche, with Nur ihr allein they delivered a cool swing - and with Poc vecem they slowed down again.
Before they headed into Liam, Micha Rhein couldn't resist to make a joke, and not just Flex der Biegsame laughed, coz the joke was directed at him and his Uilleann pipes.
Soon, too soon they came to an end, but before they left the stage they had a few more songs. Micha and Basti performed Mein rasend Herz, and together with the rest of In Extremo they played Long Way To The Top, Herr Mannelig and last, but not least Küss mich during the encores.
If they will take another trip back in time, nobody knows. Anyway, it was a great experience and one can just hope that they will do something like this in future.

For the ones of you who speak German, you can listen to an interview with Flex der Biegsame & Yellow Pfeiffer click here!

The interview is about 16+ minutes

Almost 2 hours of waiting in the cold, having a look into the foyer and trying to melt the security guy with pleading looks, so that he opens the door... But no chance! Well, I guess that's what many fans of In Extremo experienced before the show at Bochum's Christuskirche, but the concert should make up for waiting in the cold.
After circling the city center several times I finally found a parking garage which was opened all night. When I arrived at Christuskirche almost every seat was taken and so I decided to keep standing as I'm used to it.
Finally In Extremo entered the stage in clothes which looked like a mix on the 50's and fantasy clothes. It was like being at home which partly was caused by the couch which singer Micha really felt comfortable on. Additionally they added some street lights to create a special atmopshere. They kicked off with Merseburger Zaubersprüchen 1. After Spielmann they offered Frei zu sein which featured a drum part which was giving you shivers. Actually all songs were rearranged to fit the concept, so they presented Lebensbeichte in a swinging way. Between the songs Micha talked with the fans and announced the songs in his very own way, so he explained that they have to collect some wood now to build a ship to go to Singapur. "A song which fits well to tonight's location is Ave Maria!" Micha announced the next song. After In diesem Licht the band expressed their hope that with Merseburger Zaubersprüchen 2 the Gods of the protestant church and the Catholic will unite. For Nymphenzeit In Extremo hoped for some acceptance from up above, but I think most didn't care... A short break should follow to give the smokers time to wallow their vice.
After the break Micha entered the stage in the outfit he wore at Vollmond video clip and so this was the first song they played. Spanish sounds were offered with En Esta Noche after Die Gier. Yellow Peiffer supported this songs with castanets. Beautiful. Great atmosphere which was accompanied by Bastian's acoustic guitar. A fan who's b-day it was they did Nur ihr allein where the fan sat down on the couch, what a great present! Then Micha invited the fans for dinner and the band would cook for them, everybody knew that next in line was Sieben Köche, but this time as a semi ballad. And with Auf's Leben they finished off the set.
The fans wanted more and so the band returned for an encore. Micha and Bastian and offered Mein rasend Herz as a duet, a very cool acoustic version. Back to rock and with a AC/DC cover song the fans no longer remained seated. With Herr Mannelig and Küss mich set the place on fire. But after 2 1/2 hrs it was over and the fans headed home satisfied.
Such a concert rewards you for all the time waiting in the cold and the mess to get there. The 23-song set made an unforgettable evening. A great show which you shouldn't miss next time around.
