Scars Incomplete

Scars Incomplete
(Massacre Records - 2007)

It seems that Wolfgang Rothbauer is a workoholic, coz this is his 3rd band! In Eisblut he plays guitar - 2 members of Eisregen are playing here too - , in Thirdmoon he's the guitarist and singer and here he's just singing. Mastermind Wolfgang Rothbauer founded the band in 2002 and they released their debut Stillborn Rebirth in 2003. The critics loved the album and so did the fans and In Slumber played a lot live. Last year it was time to start writing new songs and to enter the studio to record the follow-up.
Sounds-wise the Austrians are close to Swedish bands like Soilwork, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity... And even old Hypocrisy, some say. I don't think that the production of Tue Madsen and Peter Siegfredsen are just responsible for the Swedish sound... Modern thrash... Death metal... Well, they are somewhere between these genres...
The songs are played well, but it all sounds too familiar, even if here and there are sparks of origniality - middle part of One Bullet For One Aeon. Hate Dominated is more aggressive and is partly more old school death metal, but speed changes break free from the old school death metal structure.
As I don't understand the words and I don't got the lyrics with the CD, I can't tell you anything about the lyrical side. On the debut the lyrics dealt with the borderline syndrome - as the biography says - and Scars Incomplete shall be about the inner dialogs of a human wreckage - just fiction - and this person tends to punish / hurt itself.
