Hatebreed

Hatebreed
(Roadrunner Records - 2009)

It haven't been too long ago when Hatebreed presented their fans a cover album called For The Lions, now they have their new self-titled studio album out. The questions is, can one of the most popular metalcore bands keep their level? Will they add new elements? Will they progress musically? You can answer this question with yes and no when talking about the new Hatebreed album. Sure, you can identify their sound immediately, the songs have all the trademarks. Mid-paced tunes to bounce and mosh as well as fast ones which honor Slayer (Become The Fuse, Merciless Tide!!!) and these will rock every festival and club concert. There are also great hardcore hymns with sing along parts and gang shouts - and so it seems that it's all the same, that it's pure Hatebreed. But there are differences to their former releases, but kinda hidden... Jasta's vocals are a bit more melodic and with In Ashes They Shall Reap they add doom sounds - and sound a bit like Crowbar... Punk vibes can be found at Every Lasting Star and Words Became Untruth. The dark instrumental Undiminished is something you won't expect from Hatebreed. Not that obvious is that there are more guitar lead parts. Actually I don't really want these band to be experimental, and what they offer at the new album is more then enough for me. Now let the fan in me talk: The album rocks! It's what I expected from Hatebreed. While hearing the album I start longing to see them live - with the crowd going crazy, the big circle pit, the bouncing, the moshing and headbanging. F**k musical development, if I still not tired of their songs, then they aren't boring! One thing for sure, this disc will stay in my player for a long time! Well, musical development or not, as long as their songs are addictive, it's okay. In a nutshell... Absolutely fantastic album - period!
