Bloody Pit Of Horror

Bloody Pit Of Horror
(AFM Records - 2010)

Album number twelve for this strange American combo called GWAR (God What an Awful Racket) and also this time we can't put them into a specific metal genre, because in their entire career they played hard rock, punk, etc etc etc. We can put this new Bloody Pit Of Horror into thrash, but (also?) this time GWAR failed in their intentions. This new album is simply to judge because it's so similar to anything you've ever heard.
Also the good intentions to start the CD with a four part song (Suite??? Noooooooo, never think about that) The Bloody Pit Of Horror are over at the end of this parts. These songs are not good enough, except the first episode Zombie March that has a good chorus. All the entire album in his 37 minutes gives to you only a few emotions, the only song that deserve attention is Hail Genocide.
Sorry guys, but this time your scenography is not enough to fill all your holes... Perhaps you'll be lucky next time...

Lust In Space

Lust In Space
(AFM Records - 2009)

The Scumdogs of the Universe took a 3 year long creative break and are now back with their 11th studio album. GWAR are famous of their alien costumes and their live shows full of splattering blood and sperm. The fivesome from outer space stick to their sound mix of thrash metal, shock rock, punk and hardcore, but obviously on Lust In Space you get more thrash metal. The songs are faster and have great mosh parts and so one has to think of bands like Sacred Reich, Slayer and Metallica. And they even offer a Misfits-like track with Metal Metal Land. It's great that GWAR added some heaviness and attack you relentlessly! It can be stated that this is the best album they did in years! They never did a really bad album, but the last CDs couldn't keep the level when it comes to song writing compared to their older ones. And Lust In Space is presented in a great way. The Scumdogs stick to their deviant humor which is essential for GWAR - and without their strange humor and the weird lyrics it won't be GWAR. You can have a good laugh listening to their words! GWAR are unique - and they are fabulous! Listen to the album and look forward to another splatter show with tons of blood and other disgusting liquids!

Lust In Space

Lust In Space
(AFM Records - 2009)

The scumdogs of the universe present their new album Lust In Space, the release marks the 25th year of their awakening. Slowly they kick off with spoken words, but then they storm off - and they are not lost in space. Lust In Space is an up-tempo, theatrical rocker with thrashy influences. The vocals of Oderus Urungus is variable and so he can change the atmosphere of the song which his voice. Certain parts make me think of Matt Barlow, but it's mainly the timbre and some phrasing. The song has technical and complex parts, get's a progressive edge through it. With Let Us Slay they speed up, reminds me a bit of Anthrax... But also has a bit of Rocky Horror Picture Show. The scumdogs create a sonic chaos, sometimes it seems that it get structured, but then they 'spoil' it again. The monsters don't fit into any framework, so they present crossover elements at Damnation Under God. For Lords And Masters they push down the accelerator! A thrash tune with some twists and turns! You can pick any song on this disk, and the GWARers will surprise you! Every time you think you know what's coming, you will be wrong!
Let GWAR take you into their sound universe! They still thrash the world! With Lust In Space the monsters attack the listeners again.

Rag Na Rök

Rag Na Rök
(Metal Blade - 1995)

What do this crazy, uncivilized freaks present us this time? Party punk which live will be presented in a Rocky Metal Horror show! A mixture of B52's and GBH, of Mentors and Toy Dolls in their early days. Musically they probably not everybody's taste, but visually GWAR and Genitorturers are the non plus ultra of the scene!
