I thought this band already broke up, coz it's been 5 years since their last album came out. But Grip Inc. are still alive. The trio has changed a little. In the past the fast thrashers been what they did best, these days the mid-tempo songs are best. Guitarist Waldemar Sorycha added different elements and so creates different atmospheres. There are acoustic guitars, oriental sounds and electronic-influenced parts with loops. When you first listen to them the songs sound straight, but with every spin you discover new details. The electronic gimmicks on The Gift make this one special. The thrashy guitar riffing is during the verse combined with loops. Cool! They use electronic sounds also on Prophecy. Totally different is Curse (Of The Cloth) which surprises the listener with flamenco guitars! On other tracks they use a cello. Sure, they also offer some Slayer-like thrashers. Dave Lombardo can't deny his past... Present. In comparison with their former releases this album has a larger variety and so singer Gus Chambers has more possibilities to vary his vocals.
Perhaps not straight enough for thrash metalheads of the early days, but for fans of modern thrash this is a good choice.
