With Foreigner another rock dinosaur came to rock Bonn, about a month ago Alice Cooper played the same stage, but Mr. Cooper is frequently touring while Foreigner only come over once in awhile. The weather conditions were so-so and during the show it started raining, but due to the fact that a large part of the place in front of the stage is covered it's no reason to miss the show.
We missed most of the opening act Jimix, got in when they played Baby Come Back. Their funky rock tunes where enjoyed by some, while others were impatienately waiting for Mick Jones and his mates.
Finally the music stopped and little later drummer Jason Sutter sat down behind his kit, keyboarder Michael Bluestein took his place behind the keyboards and then the other guys entered the stage to kick off with Double Vision - the title track of their multi-platinum album. Singer Kelly Hansen who joined Mick Jones and Foreigner in 2005 was always in action, cheering up the fans and singing the old tunes like they were written for him. Musically they took us on a musical journey with Head Games and Cold As Ice. During Cold As Ice Kelly Hansen climbed onto the P.A. boxes at one side of the stage to encourage the fans to sing along loudly. Bassist Jeff Pilson was always in motion, no surprise that Jones calls him 'the animal'.
It was almost like they played Records live spiced up with some new tunes. After Waiting For A Girl Like You Kelly Hansen took time to talk to the fans: "It's been awhile since we've been here.... We recorded a new album, the first in 15 years. We want to play a song from that album now!" Rhythm guitarist Thom Gimbel walked on stage playing tenor saxophone while Mick Jones picked up his acoustic guitar for When It Comes To Love.

"What we gonna do?" Kelly Hansen asked the white-haired guitarist and after they agreed on a song, Mr. Jones took place behind his keyboard and they headed into That Was Yesterday. It seems that even more fans were singing along, dancing... The atmosphere was great and it was obvious that Foreigner enjoyed being on stage. Everybody who watched Kelly Hansen believed every word he sang. His stage acting is influenced by Steven Tyler, no doubt about it, but who cares? It's fun to watch him and the other Foreigners on stage. Time for the title track of their new album - Can't Slow Down. The new songs fit in perfectly. "It's great to be back in Bonn, great place - especially when it's raining." Jones said with a smile and before he introduced the band they offered a song from their self-titled debut, time for Starrider! This time Thom Gimbel picked up the German flute while Mick Jones grabed his acoustic guitar and took over the microphone. Lead singer Kelly Hansen stayed in the background, doing backings, partly echoing the leads or joining in. Great one.
Time for Hansen to take over again. "We play some old songs, some new songs and some other... With this one we go back to the beginning of Foreigner. I believe you all know this one!" Kelly shouted and Feels Like The First Time was kicked off. Right before the refrain they stopped dead, but only a handful of fans were singing. Which Hansen commented: "Absolutely nothing!" So the band picked up where they stopped the song and continued. When Thom Gimbel walked on stage with his sax and Jones played the first riffs of Urgent the place was on fire! And they kept the fire burning with an extended version of Jukebox Hero! It was party time! That was the end of the set... One should leave off with an appetite, right? Well, soon they returned for 2 more songs. For the encore they chose I Wanna Know What Love Is and Hot Blooded they closed the circle.
Mick Jones played their classics countless times, but you can hear in his play that he's still heart and soul. Great performance from Foreigner! They know how to rock and after almost 35 years they still alive and kickin'! Please come back soon!
