This is the new album of David 'Rock' Feinstein, but not another The Rods album! Musically Feinstein is more melodic metal / hard rock with roots in the 80's, but with a nowadays sound. The album opener is the fast Regeneration with screaming guitars and the powerful vocals of Artension / Royal Hunt singer John West. Drummer Nate Horton and bassist Jeff Howell built the rhythmic playground for mastermind David Feinstein and keyboarder Bob Twining. With Regeneration Mr. Feinstein wrote a real ear catcher and it was a good decision to put this track on some magazine compilations. The following track Rebelution is also up-tempo, but has a different vibe... Remind me more of Feinstein's cousin Ronnie James Dio... The powerful production by David Feinstein and Joey DeMaio and the great song make you enjoy the album from the first minute. Especially the title track Third Wish is a track I can recommend you. It starts slowly - balladesque - with keyboard and vocals, then slowly the band joins in. After 2 minutes - the track is lasting almost 9 minutes - it becomes an epic heavy rocker and again their is some Dio vibe... But well, Feinstein and Dio been both part of Elf.
While Masquerade's guitar riffing - and also the drumming - seems to hold some similarities to early Iron Maiden... Think of the Killers era. With Streaming Star they give us some Rainbow-like heavy rock. Even if it's almost impossible to create something totally new in heavy rock and to avoid reminiscences, they have their own sound. And I really hope that their will be a follow up!
Last, but not least there is the instrumental Inferno. Never been a big fan of instrumental music, but its well done, only a bit to long for me... But this doesn't change my opinion about this album! A grower and an album which is fun to listen even after a hundred spins. This album rocks!
The songs come alive through the Feinstein's guitar and West's brilliant vocals. Melody and heaviness... Guitar riffing and a powerful voice... Catchiness... All this describes the sound of Feinstein. One of my favorite albums at the moment. And I hope that there will be a chance to see Feinstein live!
