Edge Of Spirit
(Demons Run Amok - 2010)

The Japanese band Edge Of Spirit is presenting their fourth album, a self-titled one which is finally released via Demons Run Amok in Europe - a year after the release in Japan. The quintet was founded in 1997 and they play metalcore the way the first metalcore bands did just before it became the next big thing. Edge Of Spirit are 100% original metalcore, raw and powerful produced to stream roll everything on their way. The sound of Edge Of Spirit shows reminiscences of Chimaira, Unearth, Heaven Shall Burn and Caliban. Frontman Sho sounds like a younger brother of the Heaven Shall Burn singer Marcus Bischoff and demonstrates his skills. Musically they swing between melodic death metal and a bit of thrash spiced up with heavy breakdown parts. All based on a heavy groove, but peppered up with some up-tempo mosh passages. Not the most exiting mix, but they are one of the few bands who play this old school metalcore, the authentic metalcore as the Japanese do. This is metalcore the way it was in the beginning - brutal, aggressive and raw.
