Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher
(self-released - 2006)

The French band Dreamcatcher was founded back in 2001 and this is about their 2006 demo release. Dreamcatcher are offering driven metal sounds with reminiscences to the 80's and some thrash elements. The voice of Garrel is raspy, but melodic and reminds me a bit of Paul DiAnno and Rob Halford (early Judas Priest days). Musically they show similarities to Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Annihilator and Judas Priest. The drums are varying and dynamic, same can be said about the guitar play. The slightly epic track The Soul Can't Rest is sticking out and shows some Iced Earth influence. No Way Out is a bit more thrashy and has a punk attitude. People Of Darkness shows more sound facets, but the vocals are a bit too shallow for my taste... A bit more drama would have done the song some good, but it's still convincing. I Will Spit On Your Grave is a quite typical metal tune with double bass drumming and playful guitars - for me the highlight of this demo. But again it's the vocals which don't do it for me. But Dreamcatcher do have the potential and technically they are more then convincing. If you want to check them out, visit their MySpace.
