Evilution

Evilution
(Massacre Records - 2013)

A debut from California, happens all the time. Deadlands have been fishing around the waters for guest musicians to be part of their first album, and the rather strange result is that on the song Final Solution the former King Diamond / Mercyful Fate axe swingers Hank Shermann, Michael Denner, Andy LaRocque, Mike Wead harasses the environment with guitar mania. That could be acceptable enough, they are good guitarists, but next chapter on the guest list is Claudeous Creamer, Glen Alvelais and Steve Smyth. That is one or two too many, if you ask me, and the whole affair ends up with machine power metal, simple to the bone, and boring hardcore music that is not moving many steps forward. Brian O'Connor has nice ideas in his vocal performance, but the unique line in the songs is missing, the glow fails to live. Only song that has some interest is Path We've Chosen where you get some well grinded power metal with potential for quality. Shame to make such an album where the heart is not really in it. Better luck next time.
