Falling From The Moon

Falling From The Moon
(Frontiers - 2009)

Mat and Robbie La Blanc are back! The line-up is almost the same as on their debut, just guitarist Michael Patzig was added. Musically they also continue what they did on their debut album, AOR is their love. Even if the title track Falling From The Moon is a bit heavier, it still have the AOR vibe. But you also get balladesque tunes like Everything, a good one, but it don't give me goose bumps like some others do. This one lacks the certain something - at least for me. I prefer stuff like Deep In The Heart and Don't Take It Away. I think that the La Blanc brothers and their mates are better when they rock. It's a decent album with well performed songs, but it's a bit like elevator music... You hardly remember the songs afterwards... But good music for a long ride... Don't get me wrong, the album is fun to listen, but it lacks an ear catcher, there is no song which will haunt you for days.
If you have their first album, you want be disappointed by them now. AOR fans who like to listen to Joshua Kadison and Richard Marx as well as Journey should dig this one... Check out the title track Falling From The Moon, Everything and Don't Take It Away.

Falling From The Moon
(Frontiers - 2009)

Blanc Faces is a musical project of the brothers Ronnie and Brian La Blanc. The other musicians who take part in the recording are Kyle Woodring, Jeff Batter and Butch Taylor as guest performers. The La Blanc brothers have worked with Toto, and they have done some TV shows in the past. Their musical inspiration comes from bands like Survivor, Journey and Foreigner. They play melodic rock, but lack a style to call theirs. The songs are not strong enough, some of them might get played on rock'n'roll radio programs, but I don't see the real breakthrough around the corner. They do soft AOR rock, and only 2 songs, I Come Alive and Falling From The Moon have some bite and personality about them. Also on Like A Believer they try to make more pumping rock'n'roll, but the outcome is much too weak. The first song I Come Alive is almost a copy of Red Diamond's song I'll Be There.
They surely have the musical talent, but should work alot more with finding a style that will keep them from drowning in the lake of hundreds of other bands who makes the same kind of soft music as Blanc Faces do.
