Black'n'Roll

Black'n'Roll
(Mystic Production - 2010)

Black River are a Polish band and if you take a look at the line-up then you will definitely expect something different! Black River is singer Maciek Taff (Rootwater), guitarists Art and Piotr 'Kay' Wtulich, bassist Tomasz Wroblewski (Behemoth, Vesania) and drummer Darek 'Daray' Brzozowski (Dimmu Borgir, Vader). But musically the fivesome pursued a different path... It's heavy rocking metal which partly make me think of Zakk Wylde... And Monster Magnet. Songs like Isabel have a catchy hook, but are still very heavy. At Lucky In Hell they sound raw and dirty, heavy and has a rock vibe. At the title track Black'n'Roll they remind me of Volbeat! This song is pure fun! Special in it's own way is the cover version of Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen mixed with Rolling Stones' Jumping Jack Flash now called Jumping Queenny Flash! One of my faves is Loaded Weapon which hooked me up right away. Great guitar play on all songs, but here the lead guitar was truly shining! Morphine starts slowly, but then seems to explode. Crazy rocker, but beware it will make you an addict!
The Polish outfit might not invent some new style, but their ultra-heavy whiskey-laden rock sounds seems to be the right stuff for some bikers.... Or BLS fans... Volbeat lovers... Anyway, don't be misled by the black metal background of the band members, this has nothing to do with black metal!
