A Perfect Day

A Perfect Day
(Frontiers Records - 2012)

Guitarist Andrea Cantarelli teamed up with Labyrinth members Roberto Tiranti (vocals, bass) and Alessandro Bissa (drums) to start A Perfect Day. Now their self-titled debut is out and the Italians present melodic metal with a dash of modern hard rock and a hint of prog.

They kick off with the title track, a catchy rocker with heavy parts next to melodic passages. Andrea Cantarelli let his guitar sing during an instrumental passage and singer Roberto Tiranti is hooking you up with his powerful but emotional vocals. At Now And Forever a heavy groove is dominating and sets the counter part to the melodic vocal line. After this groover they slow down for Long Road To Ruin, a guitar-based balladesque rocker. Actually I would have loved it, if they had stick to the balladesque style and perhaps go acoustic... Alone and Free (Rockblind) is another modern rock track and partly reminds me of Evergrey, just a bit... tamed... Even if it's one of the heavier tracks on the album. For me one of my favorite tracks at A Perfect Day. Somehow Under The Same Sun doesn't get me.... It isn't a bad one, but it lacks something - at least to me. Here We Are Again is a different tune, it has a melancholy edge. The closer We Only Say Goodbye is a powerful rocker, but the vocals should be a bit more up front at the powerful passages. But that's something they can easily change next time.
