The First Emotion

The First Emotion

(Nu Metal Records - 2001)

A new band from Spain, but they aren't into power metal or true metal. They play Nu metal, combining strong, melancholic melodies with cross-over, hip-hop and scratch elements. The band started back in 1994, even if the oldest band member is just 22 years old! The band is located in Barcelona and started as a thrash metal band, but these day can be compared with international known bands like Machine Head, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Korn and other known genre bands. Before they completed their line-up in 1998 the band had to survive a period of time where they were looking for a singer, but never gave up. During that period they recorded 3 themes for short movies and also two tracks for a compilation. In 1998 they recorded a mini-CD called Your Toy Is Broken and the release brought them attention nation-wide. Now they try to make themselves known abroad. Try the opening track Winner Or Loser to get an idea of what Afterfeedback is all about.
Lyrically dealing with social and even personal events like many Nu metal acts do. They are not really copying any known band from this genre, but there are parts here and there which might remind you of the big names. Anyway, the youngsters are talented, even is this album won't catapult them to the top of the Nu metal scene.
The sextet offers some interesting pieces of Nu metal like When To Smile Means To Cry which is a slower one, but very intense song. Or try Who Knows Justice? which remind me of Machine Head partly, but has much more to offer than just this elements!
The album is a decent debut for the youngsters from Barcelona and will help them to make the first step on international music grounds.
