Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti

Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti
(Moribund Records - 2011)

The trio has done their 5th black album where they continue their black events as they have since 1995. The style is a little changed on their new album Ab Luna Lucenti, Ab Noctua Protecti. It is now more focused on piano and keyboards where they make scary and atmospheric sound effects. The guitars are more in the background and only has a minor role. With the slow songs the vocalist Ulfhedhnir has to work harder to bind it all together, and that is not always a successful task, but mostly it fits their album in a good way. Golden Path is a good and interesting intro with these keyboards where the storming tempo comes up occasionally and then again a tiptoe tripping guidance to their music. Hearing Without Fear is a very black speed metal where the melodic attempts give an uplifting attitude, a song you will not get tired of. Echoes Of Desperation And Hate are super melodic keyboard black metal with great ideas and give a good impression of their way of thinking. Scent Of Sulphur are more aggressive and combines the melodic and slow black metal in a very special way. Aura Ignis Aqua Tellus finishes this album with growling so slow that the song is almost stopping, strange idea but the elements are well placed even though some could find it a little too special. The general view is that they have made a good change from their previous style.
