After Tomorrow

After Tomorrow
(self-released - 2007)

I can't tell you much about this Slovakian band, I kinda stumble over them and decided to review their single which can be downloaded at their website!
Symphonic and with heavy riffs they kick off this single and the track Duality. Then they speed up and the track becomes a symphonic, melodic speed metal track - which is spiced up with some black metal-like scolding. Singer Matey reminds me a bit of André Matos, even if he's singing more in a mid-range, but he also knows how to hit high notes. At Black Eyes Death they sound heavier and don't speed up too much. This tune is more based in tradition heavy metal, but again you'll find other ingredients. The guitar work is differing to the usual riff-based stuff you get at this kind of music. A slow, more balladesque one is Rain which is still heavy and riff-based. Okay, they push the accelerator down a bit, but the song is still balladesque - with power. Some parts Matej sings mid-range, some high-pitched - and he's doing good. The closer is Prisoner which also starts slowly with keyboards and carries an epic touch. Here Matej can show emotions, more then during the fast passages. But later the song becomes more mid-paced and develops into a powerful epic tune. So, the opening tune might mislead you! So check out the whole single! But as this is a free download, there is no excuse not to do! So, if you are into symphonic melodic metal, then give it a try!
It would be interesting to hear more from the Slovakian Raven Claw and I hope there is more to come. What I like in their sound is the diversity and that they try to find their own way.
