Tearstained
(Diehard Music - 2000)

The Finnish quintet started back in 1992 as a death metal band, after a few years their sound changed and became more melodic and atmospheric. In 1997 the band caught the interest of the Danish label Emanzipation Records and released their debut Sorrowburn in 1998. The debut entered the Finnish charts and left Celine Dion, Massive Attack and Cradle Of Filth behind! Now the second album Tearstained is out. How to explain their music? It's kind of a mixture between HIM and Sentenced add some cello and a female voice like Tarja's (Nightwish) for the backings and some passages.... The play a kind of crossover of traditional metal, gothic and doom. The beginning of 4 Seasons Rush remind me of Paradise Lost, but just until the singer Juha-Pekka starts singing. I think the band already have their own style, even if there are parts which reminds me of this or that band. But these days it's pretty hard to write songs without parts which maybe remind someone of something... It seems that everything has already been written and the challenge is to create something which is almost new... The emotional songs are catchy, but don't get boring when you listen to Tearstained the x-time. The sad melodies and the very personal and emotional lyrics make this album different to similar bands. It's like you go on a trip of emotions with singer JP...
